„Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy concerned with explaining the fundamental nature of being and the world. although it is not easily defined.Traditionally, metaphysics attempts to answer two basic questions in the broadest possible terms :
1. "What is there?" and
2. "What is it like?"
Metaphysics poets were a loose, in those days modern and rebelious group of British lyric poets of the 17th century. They shared interests in metaphysical concerns and a common way of investigating them through poetry and had unique ways of xpressing themselves. Their work was characherised by inventiveness of metaphor. Metaphysical concerns are the common subject of their poetry, they investigated the world by rational discussion of its phenomena rather than by intuition or mysticism.
Members of this group were Donne, Marvell, Vaughan and Traherne, though other figures like Abraham Cowley are sometimes included in the list. They share common characheristics of wit, inventiveness, and a love of elaborate stylistic manoeuvres.
